Eagles nest on Table Top

It was an exciting evening of volleyball at Bell’s Sports Centre with Ian McGrath’s Mental Eagles taking over the top spot from Gregor Walker’s Dodgy Spikers making this year’s title race all the more interesting.

These two sides were first on court, both sets of players knowing that victory would see their title challenge becoming more realistic. In the first set, Eagles dominated play with Spikers looking particularly sluggish and it was no surprise that Eagles won 25-16. The second set saw Spikers come more into the game with Jamie Salvin’s serving and hitting being much more effective. The second set was poised at 23 points each with Eagles doing just enough to rise above their local opponents, winning by 25 points to 23.

Mental Eagles then met Stuart Anderson’s Hitting Bricks and there was no stopping them now as they went on to win 25-11; 25-18. Eagles also defeated Kintronics 25-12; 25-15 to establish themselves top of the league table. Spikers also got back on the winning trail against Steve Martin’s SoVoBo although they made heavy weather of the first set, scraping through 25-23 before winning the second set more comfortably 25-14 and followed this up by reversing their result against Scotrange from the previous round of fixtures, winning 25-12; 25-15.

Hitting Bricks and SoVoBo’s game saw Bricks bounce back from their earlier disappointment to win 25-21; 25-19.

It was Fife and Kinross derby matches next with Colin McGinlay’s Team Fife edging out both Kinross sides, Scotrange and Kintronics by two sets to love to tuck themselves into third place.
