Premier League teams met at Bell’s Sports Centre on Sunday evening for their final round of fixtures of 2015 and it was Craig Donaldson’s Kinross Scotrange who maintained their 100% record dumping Graeme McIntyre’s Dunfermline and Gregor Walker’s Dodgy Spikers to finish the year on top of the table.
Dunfermline fielded three male members of the Ner family, father Satnum and sons Fraser and Lewis but it wasn’t enough to stop a rampant Scotrange winning 25-14; 25-9.
Dodgy Spikers put up more resistance with the first set poised at 19 points each before the Kinross side edged ahead to win 25-22, following this up with a 25-17 second set win to stay clear at the top. Spikers also met fellow Kinross side Kintronics who had recorded their first victory of the season against Ian McGrath’s Mental Blocks. The first set saw Spikers soar to a 15-7 lead but the Kinross side pegged it back at 21 points each. Consecutive errors by Kintronics allowed Spikers to take the first set 25-22. The second set was equally close but this time Kintronics came from 17-20 down to level the game 25-22. The third set decider saw Kintronics take the early initiative but Spikers levelled at 8 points each just as the final hooter sounded with a draw being a wee bit harsh on Kintronics who played their best volleyball of the season so far.
Colin McGinley’s Team Fife had the experienced Theo in their ranks but their championship hopes suffered a setback as they lost out in a closely fought battle with Hitting Bricks 20-25; 22-25.
The Fifers had another close game against Iain Cook’s Eagles winning 25-18; 19-17. Stuart Anderson’s Bricks then faced fellow Fifers Dunfermline and managed to secure second spot in the league with a fine 25-13; 25-19 win with some fine play from Alan Williams and Pawel Tutak.
In the evening’s other game Iain Cook’s Eagles beat Mental Blocks.
