The Perth & Kinross District Volleyball League season commences this Sunday evening at Perth College sports hall with the 12 team recreational league teams taking the court to kick of this season’s league campaign.
With all local indoor sports having to scramble around looking for hall hires due to the closure or Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth College UHI is now the only dedicated indoor sports facility within Perth and Kinross which can provide two full size volleyball courts. Apart from the Letham Hub it is the only independent provider of indoor court space apart from local schools but they are closed on both Saturday and Sunday evenings making it even more difficult to find space.
It is just unfortunate that this facility has to be shared by numerous other indoor sports who have been displaced by Bell’s closure.
With both Team Fife and PLUS Perth withdrawing from this season’s competition it is good that five new local teams have joined the league making it a more exciting prospect with 66 matches now having to take place between now and the end of the season.
Dodgy Diggers, Handsy Hitters, Hits Don’t Lie, Notorious DIG and Perth UHI play their opening fixtures this Sunday with Ksawier Grabowski’s Notorious DIG taking on both Kinross teams. Blaze Ferguson’s Handsy Hitters play Kinross High and Perth UHI. Harry Imlay’s Dodgy Diggers play Tay Pearls and Hit’s Don’t lie. Georgi Nikolov’s Hits Don’t Lie also play Motley Crew and Dodgy Diggers.
So with last year’s recreational league winners Team Fife out of the equation this season there will be a new team name on this season’s league shield but who will it be? It makes it a mouth watering opportunity for the new sides to cut their teeth against seasoned opponents to see who will eventually finish on top.
Premier League games will take place next Sunday at Perth College.
