The Perth and Kinross Disttict Vollleball League played its second round of Premier League fixtures at Bells Sports Centre on Sunday evening and with four games played there are three teams tied with maximum points at the top of the table.
Colin McGinley’s Team Fife opened against Iain Cook’s Mental Blocks , both teams having won their opening fixtures the previous Sunday. The Fifers were on fire with quick hitting from Ben Buzza and Mikel Kopacz, storming to a 25-6 first set lead. The second set saw Blockers come more into the game with some fine hitting from young Lewis Crockart but it wasn’t enough as the Fifers went on to win 25-13. McGinley’s marauders then faced a young Kintronics side fielding four sixteen year old boys. The Fifers certainly taught the schoolboys a lesson as they went on to win and secure maximum points with a 25-7; 25-16 win.
Dodgy Spikers attacking St Andrews University
Craig Donaldson’s Kinross Scotrange opened against Les Sikora’s Eagles side who were without their young outside hitter Dawid Kukla. Eagles opened strongly taking an early lead but Scotrange started matching them until the set was progressing point for point until the score reached 23 points each. It was the Kinross side who scored the vital two points for victory. The second set saw the Kinross side again take and early lead which they consolidated to edge the second set 25-21.Eagles also lost out to Dodgy Spikers who were forced to reshuffle after young Lucas Spring was forced off with an ankle ligament injury 16-25; 19-25.
St Andrews University played their opening match against Scotrange and the Kinross side did enough to win 25-15; 25-14 to keep them at the top. The St Andrews boys then faced Gregor Walker’s Dodgy Spikers and it was Spikers who kept their 100 per cent record intact with a 25-19; 25-17 win. Spikers followed this up with a 25-16; 25-19 win against Eagles to keep them level at the top of the leaguee with Scotrange and Team Fife.
Mental Blocks Ray McIntosh hitting past the Hitting Bricks block
Stuart Anderson’s Hitting Bricks lost out to Mental Blocks but scored a victory against the young Kintronics’ side.

This coming Sunday sees the Recreational League teams meet for their first league encounter with the boys from Strathallan opening their league campaign against Kinross BB. The opening fixtures also throw up a Fife derby with Dunfermline facing Team Fife. With thirteen teams now competing in the Recreational League this means that one team will have a “free evening” on a rotational basis. This means that the Kinross Mongrels team will have to wait until 26th November to play their first league games.
