It was Valentine Day Volleyball at Bell’s Sports Centre on Sunday evening as Recreational League teams met for their first love sport.

Ian McGrath’s league leaders Motley Crew had a tough time scraping through by the narrowest of margins against Gary Birrell’s Hits & Giggles.

Hits & Giggles shocked the league leaders by taking the first set 25-20 but McGrath’s Crew fought back to level things taking the second set with a similar scoreline:25-20. With minutes remaining the third set commenced and it was Hits & Giggles who scored the first two points but again Crew clawed their way back to lead 3-2 at the final whistle to keep their 100 per cent winning record intact.

Crew’s second match against Brian Hutton’s PLUS Perth Mental Health was a different story as PLUS Perth dumped the league leaders 25-15; 25-12 to keep their own league title hopes alive. Their title aspirations were further enhanced with a two set to love win over Suzanne Becher’s Perth High “B.”
Hits & Giggles were involved in another third set when they met Stuart Anderson’s Hitting Bricks. H & G took the first set 25-20 but Bricks battled back to win the second st 25-21.  With only one minute remaining the third set commenced and it was Bricks who secured victory with a 2-0 win.

Bricks then stonewalled Liz Angus and her Tay Pearls winning 25-16; 25-11 taking them to second spot in the league.
Mark Cathro’s Kinross High School side are also in the mix for the championship in this their first season first of all dumping local rivals Mongrels and following this up with a close fought win against Mary Cook’s Aberfeldy 25-14; 22-18.
Aberfeldy were involved in another close match against Kinross BB Wildcats losing the first set 20-25 before fighting back to win the second 25-9 and the third 6-2.
In the other matches Perth High A beat Perth High C with Perth High A beating BB Wildcats by two sets to one and Perth High C overcoming Mongrels. Tay Pearls also defeated Perth High B to round off a fun evening’s Valentine volleyball.
