Sunday evening’s penultimate round of recreational league fixtures confirmed that Ellen Ranklin’s Team Fife will be champions elect with Kinross taking the runners up slot.
The evening started with a close match between Nae Fear and Kinross with Fear taking the first set 25-17 but Kinross fighting back to take the second set 25-22 seeing the match end as a draw. Nae Fear had another close match against Crieff with Fear taking the first set 27-25 only for the Earnsiders to draw level by winning the second set 25-18. With two minutes remining it was Nae Fear who led 2-0 at full time to claim a narrow victory. The Team Fife versus Crieff match was another close fought affair with the Fifers edging the first set 25-23 and Crieff scraping through the second set 26-24 for another drawn match.
The most decisive result of the evening saw Aberuthven Acers ease past All Stars 25-22; 25-21. Final game of the top six teams saw Team Fife play Kinross and this too was another close game. The Fifers won the first set 25-20 but Kinross levelled by winning the second set 25-17 for another drawn match.
The bottom five teams also had their share of close matches with Paris Diggers winning a three set thriller against Aberfeldy 23-25; 25-13; 5-0. The Aberfeldy v Motley Crew match also went to three sets with the Breadalbane side winning 25-17; 11-25; 3-2. Paris Diggers drew with Tay Pearls 25-14; 24-26 with Pearls defeating Aberfeldy 25-17; 17-11. Kinross High lost their two matches against Tay Pearls (28-26; 21-16) and Motley Crew (25-13; 25-19) to round off the evening’s results
This Sunday sees the final round of Premier League fixtures for the 23/24 season at Perth College. Match of the day is the meeting of Team Fife and Dodgy Spikers with Spikers currently in pole position and Team Fife tucked into second place, still in with a chance of taking top spot depending on Sunday’s other results.
