Last Sunday’s Premier League Cup competition saw six teams battle for four semi-final places on 6th March at Perth College. The opening fixture saw a strong Kinross Scotrange take on Colin McGiinley’s Fifers Too and although the opening flurries were fairly even with the points reaching six all, Craig Donaldson’s Kinross side went on a run of nine points without reply, with the score progressing to an eventual 25-17 win for the Scotrange team. The second set saw the Kinross side start brightly taking a 9-1 lead before eventually leading 23-13 at full time. Scotrange then took on Les Sikora’s Eagles’ side and again the Kinross side dominated, winning 25-16; 25-14. The final game of the section decided the section runners-up and semi-final slot between Fifers Too and Eagles with Eagles securing victory 25-19; 25-13.

Section two games then got underway with Andy Gunn’s Kinross Cosmos playing Stuart Anderson’s Dodgy Spikers. The Kinross side were hit by three call-offs, two due to Covid and one due to injury. This meant call ups to two girls from the Kinross High School recreational league team. The first set started fairly evenly with the score progressing to 11-10 to Spikers. Spikers then took control and ran out eventual winners 25-10; 25-3. Cosmos then faced Ryan Lula’s Team Fife and the Fifers dominated from the start to win 25-12; 25-5. The final match of the evening was to decide who finished in top spot and who would be runners-up. A very close match ensued with Team Fife edging the first set 25-21 only for Spikers to storm back in the second set to win 25-11 just as full time was reached. It was agreed to play a “sudden death” one serve decider which was won by Spikers to finish as section winners.
