Fife to the Fore in Cup Final 

Sunday evening saw eight recreational league teams meet at Perth College Sports Hall with the qualifying teams being split into two sections of four teams. 

Section one opened with last year’s league champions Nae Fear playing league newcomers the All Stars. The early stages were evenly matched with the score at 8-5 in Fear’s favour. Some powerful serves from the All Stars saw them score 8 consecutive points to put them in the lead but Nae Fear clawed back the difference point by point to win a very closely contested first set 21-19. The second set saw All Stars take the lead which they continued to hold until full time running out 15-13 ahead.

It was local derby time as the Kinross men’s team played the Kinross High School side. It was pretty much one way traffic as the men’s side ran out winners by two sets to love. 

Nae Fear then played the Kinross men’s side which was won by Nae Fear 21-15; 20-18. 

All Stars won against Kinross High by two sets to love as did Nae Fear with the final game in the section being another close contest between Kinross men and All Stars. Kinross won the first set 21-15 only for All Stars to win the second set by the same score. With minutes remaining it was Kinross who led 3-2 at the final whistle meaning that Nae Fear qualified for the final ahead of the Kinross men’s side. 

Nae Fear attacking against Team Fife

Section two games started with Perth VC playing Motley Crew and it was the Perth youngsters who came out on top winning both sets 21-12. Team Fife then played new side Diggers in Paris with the Fifers running out winners 21-16; 21-9. Team Fife then defeated Motley Crew 21-14; 18-13. Perth won their fixture against Diggers in Paris 21-18; 21-7 to maintain their 100 per cent record. The Motley Crew match against Diggers in Paris was another which went to a third set with Crew winning the first set 21-8, Diggers coming back to take the second set 21-17 with Crew finishing 11-4 ahead in the third set. Final game of the section was the section decider between Team Fife and Perth VC. The Fife side took an early 7-1 lead before going on to take the first set 21-16. The second set saw Perth lead 10-8 but a run of 7 consecutive points in Fife’s favour saw them lead 15-10 at full time 

The Final between Team Fife and Nae Fear started very evenly with the score rising point for point till the score read 12 points each. Team Fife then started to dominate play and ran on to win the first set 21-17. The second set was also closely contested with Nae Fear edging it 12-11 at full time but it wasn’t enough to deny Team Fife the silverware.

No games now until 29th October with the school holiday period delaying the start of the league season.
