Spikers win Covid condensed Premier League

Sunday evening saw six sides meet for a “one-night” round of fixtures to decide this season’s Covid-hit league championship.

Jamie Salvin led Dodgy Spikers in their opening match against Les Sikora’s Eagles and they had to fight all the way before edging out a stuffy Eagles’ side to record victory. On court two Ian McGrath’s Mental Blocks started rather edgily against Fifers Too but they soon got into their stride to start off their league campaign with a win.

Spikers then met Michael Donaldson’s Kinross Cosmos and it was Cosmos who drew first blood taking an early lead but Spikers settled themselves before running out convincing winners in the end. Eagles met Mental blocks on court two and this one saw Eagles’ early lead pegged back and after that Blockers kept a few points ahead right to the full-time whistle. The Kinross Cosmos match against Fifers Too was also close with Cosmos leading 31-30 only for the Fife side to go on a five-point spree to edge ahead at full time. It was local derby time when Spikers played Blockers and this one too was a close fought affair with Spikers keeping their noses in front until the final whistle sounded at 32-25.
