Volleyball League Kicks Off

The opening fixtures of the Perth & District Volleyball League take place at Perth College this coming Sunday evening with the Recreational League teams meeting for the start of the league campaign.

Games will again be the best of three sets or 35 minutes whichever is sooner. There is now a good mix of youngsters and more experienced players throughout most teams with the younger players making good progress in the sport.

It would be good to harness the youngsters’ enthusiasm by attempting to get a junior development programme underway with a view to assembling a Perth & Kinross District junior boys’ and junior girls’ squad of players, providing a pathway towards entering Scottish Volleyball’s Junior National League. This would require extra commitment from existing (or new ) coaches as well as commitment from the players who mostly have school exam priorities to cope with as well. There would also be a commitment from parents and the experienced players who can help develop the youngsters’ skills.

The league is also looking for volunteers to step up to the mark in helping run the local competition as well as taking over the treasurer-ship, website and results pages.

Sunday’s fixtures start with Mary Cook’s Aberfeldy side taking on league newcomers All Stars on court one and two of the young sides Crieff and Team Fife meeting on court two.  Team Fife also play Kinross High School later on the evening.  Pick of Sunday’s games should be Nae Fear’s fixtures with Motley Crew and Kinross.

Fixtures for Sunday with officiating team listed third.
