Fifers lead the pack

The first fixtures of the new year saw recreational league teams meet at Perth College after the festive break. 

First up was Jayne Cafferty’s Nae Fear against league newcomers Aberuthven Acers. The first set was very close with Nae Fear just edging victory 25-23. The second set saw Acers come storming back to level the match with an impressive 25-10 scoreline to see the match finish as a draw. Both Nae Fear and Acers won their other matches against PLUS Perth and Aberfeldy respectively. 

On court two Crieff defeated Tay Pearls25-10; 25-16 and followed this up to make it two consecutive wins against Kinross High School by two sets to love. Pearls also won against the Kinross youngsters 25-13; 25-19.  

The All Stars match against Paris Diggers was a very close affair with Diggers coming from behind to win the first set 26-24. Stars levelled the match by winning the second set 25-20.v The third set decider started but the score stood at 4 points each meaning the match ended as a draw. All Stars were involved in another close match when they faced Kinross. Stars stormed the first set 225-8 but Kinross fought back to take the second set 25-18. The third set saw Kinross record the win by 14 points to 7. 

League leaders Team Fife opened their new year with a narrow win against local side Motley Crew. The Fife side won the first set 25-22 but the second set was tied at 22 points each at full time. Crew won their other fixture against Aberfeldy by two sets to love.

Final game of the evening was the meeting of the top two Team Fife and Kinross. This too, was a close fought game with the Fife side edging the first set 25-22. The second set was poised with the score standing at 21-19 in the Kinross side’s favour when full time was called. 

With three games remaining over the next two sets of fixtures before the split, this season’s competition is close and it will be interesting to see who finishes where at the end of the campaign.
