Perth’s premier volleyball league teams met at Perth College on Sunday evening for their first round of fixtures for 2024
Clackers were first on court against local side Eagles with the Clackmannanshire side edging the first set 25-22. The second set saw Eagles lead 18-13 as full time was called.
Next up was Ian McGrath’s Mental Blocks as they faced Iain Cook’s young Perth team. The young Perth lads won the first set 25-18 but Blockers fought back in the second set to lead 20-16 and a share of the points.
The Clackers v Perth match was also close with Perth winning the first set 25-13 but Clackers levelled the match by taking the second set 25-22.
The Clackers v Mental Blocks match also finished with a split result, Clackers winning the first set 25-22 with Blockers leading in the second set 17-14.
Eagles v Team Fife was also inconclusive with the Fifers winning the first set 25-22 and Eagles led in the second 18-13.
Mental Blocks scored a victory against Crieff 25-17; 25-15.
Ellen Ranklin’s Team Fife opened their evening’s play against local rivals Kinross. The Kinross side were minus their two regular setters and this showed as the Fife side had a convincing win 25-11; 25-15. Jamie Salvin’s Dodgy Spikers also defeated Kinross 25-10; 25-14, following on by defeating Crieff 25-13; 25-14. Spikers were on a roll and their 25-20, 21-18 win against Eagles saw them overtake Team Fife at the top of the table as they lost their match against Perth 23-25; 15-23.
The Crieff v Kinross match saw Crieff take the first set25-16 with Kinross leading the second set 24-17.
There are no games this coming Sunday with the next Recreational League fixtures scheduled for Sunday 28th January.
