It was an exciting time last week as local schools took part in the first round of Scottish Volleyball’s Schools’ Scottish Cup competition.
Crieff High School, Kinross High School and St John’s Academy were all involved in the boys’ competition with Kinross also having a girls’ team competing.
The boys’ “local derby” between St John’s Academy and Kinross High School was an exciting match from the off with both sides playing a good standard of volleyball. The first set saw some nervous play as the sides settled into their own styles of play with points being traded evenly until the critical final phases of play. It was then that the St John’s boys edged ahead to take the first set by 25 points to 22. The second set followed a similar pattern with the Kinross side playing “catch up” and again it was St John’s who won through 25-23.
Crieff High School made the journey to Falkirk High School with Crieff winning through to play St John’s Academy away in the next round.
Kinross High School girls won through in their match at home against Forres Academy and now face a tough tie at home against South Queensferry High School.
