Perth’s Dodgy Spikers were crowned Premier League volleyball champions at Bell’s Sports Centre on Sunday evening although they had a slight stutter on the way. Their opening match against Ellen Ranklin’s Team Fife saw the Perth side come from behind to edge victory 25-23 in the first set before a more comfortable 22-12 lead saw them home in the second set.
Their second match was against Jamie Booth’s Kinross also saw some scrappy play mid way through the first set allowing Kinross to take a slight lead but the Perth side held firm to win through in the end 25-19; 25-11. It has been an impressive season for Spikers winning all ten matches without losing a set to deservedly retain the league trophy.
In the other matches, Team Fife eventually overcame a stuffy performance from Perth’s young squad of lads 25-21; 22-18 and if the local lads can cut out their error count, they will do much better next season. Perth also lost out to the local Eagles’ team but again put in a stuffy performance going down 20-25; 10-19.
The Eagles versus Mental Blocks game was a close affair with Blockers eventually coming out on top 25-23; 23,16. The Mental Blocks match against Kinross was another close fought game with Blockers winning the first set 25-22 with the second set poised at 23 points each as the final whistle sounded.
How they finished:
P W D L Points
